Day 20- A film you wish someone would make

As as huge fan of the Muppets, I'm patiently waiting for the next Muppet movie to be released. I understand one is in the works.

As as site note, the travelling museum exhibit, Jim Henson's Fantastic World is finally making its way to Chicago this week and will be at the Museum of Science & Industry until January 23, 2011. From the website: This exhibition features 100 original artworks, including drawings, cartoons and storyboards that demonstrate Henson’s talent as a story teller. The exhibit also documents Henson’s process of “visual thinking” through renderings, photographs, documents, puppets and film.

  1. I'm still waiting for someone to make a "Partridge Family" movie.

  2. I'd like to see Mel Brooks do one last picture....
Considering that he must be at least 90, I'd say it's unlikely to happen, though.

  3. Bob: I could see a movie happening, either made for TV or theatrical. A reunion film would be fun.
I wasn't a big fan of what they did with Brady Bunch movies, bringing them into modern times.

Andrew: Me too! PS he's only 84.

Tom, did you ever make it to the Henson exhibit at the MSI? It was pretty interesting and I thought worth way more than the $5 entrance fee considering the archival material presented. The Gene Siskel in recent years have occasionally been showing compilations of clips, short films, commercials made by Henson, as well as screenings of The Muppet Movie, Dark Crystal and some Fraggle Rock. Hope you made it to some of those, as I don't know if they are going to continue to do so. There were some special guests as well, such as Fran Brill and David Rudman.

  5. Yes I did see the exhbit and found it fascinating. I knew that Henson did a few commercials but I never realized that they did hundreds of them with the puppets. And some of them were violent! Comic violence though. I guess people didn't complain about those at the time; they must have thought they were funny. You never read about how "Jim henson did controversial commercials".

And I really enjoyed seeing all of his early graphic design work and experimental films. I never did see those documentaries but hopefully they will come around again or they will appear on DVD soon.
