Stalag 17 (1953)
Earlier today, some other bloggers (I won't mention any names) were writing on another site how much they "hate" this movie and called it "incredibly stupid" and said they "hate" Animal. What!? I love this movie. And I love Animal. LOVE it! LOVE IT! One of my absolute favorties.

I'm with you -- Stalag 17 is one of my favorite William Holden movies, and I find Animal and his obsession with Betty Grable very amusing.
ReplyDeleteYeah, he was great. Thanks Mythical for sharing the love!
ReplyDeleteObviously I agree. I really do not understand what they do not like about it either.
ReplyDeleteI still think I would give Robert Strauss more than three Walter Brennans! lol
ReplyDeleteI saw this movie earlier this year and I loved it. I hope to add it to my collection soon.
ReplyDeleteNo accounting for taste, I suppose. I also think "Stalag 17" is an excellent flick.
ReplyDeleteWell, I am guilty of the "incredibly annoying" :-)
ReplyDeleteI will re-watch it someday but I doubt my opnion will change.
Hi Fritz. I understand. No hard feelings I was only joking. We all have our tastes.
ReplyDeleteWell, of course everyone is entitled to his or her taste, but it's beyond me how anybody could think this movie stupid. Holden alone was wonderful, and I thought the story interesting and moving. To me, what was really stupid was "Hogan's Heroes", an obvious rip-off of this good movie, made into a fun romp through a German prison camp. What a slap in the face to WWII vets. Never understood the popularity of that show. So, that's my rant and rave for the day. LOL
ReplyDeleteWhaaaa??? Stalag 17 is a veritable masterpiece in POW drama!! I think it's right up there with The Bridges at Toko Ri in reference to how great Holden was in war films.
ReplyDeleteSarah, I know! It's a such a great flick. My favorite Holden film.
ReplyDeleteCB: Good point. I think people don't like it because of the campy TV show, which I don't care for either. They know about the show, and then think of the movie the same way. For me, I had an opposite experience. I saw the movie first, not knowing anything about the show.
Wilder didn't make bad a bad film.
